Folklore Ensemble RADOVAN Napajedla.

The Radovan ensemble was formed in Napajedla, the Northernmost part of Moravian Slovakia, in the beginning of the year 1953. It was originally the idea of several enthusiasts from the biggest local factory, Fatra.

People from the large region found jobs in Fatra and often you could hear them singing folk songs from entire Moravian Slovakia.

First established  „Slovacky kruzek“ started to practice and then performed with rented folk costumes in June 1953. As time passed, the ensemble acquired their own „dolnacke“ costumes from Uherske Hradiste, the most suited costumes for this region. „Hornacke“ and „kopanicarske“ costumes are being used as well, for more colorful repertoire.

The ensemble changed its name to „Radovan“ in the year 1971, according to the name of the vineyards in Napajedla. The children’s ensemble „Radovanek“ was formed the same year and until today it prepares the dancers for Radovan. The kids are proud of their many achievements.

The quality of the ensemble performance was gradually increasing and they took part in many competitions placing among the best.

Radovan represented Czech Republic abroad as well. They regularly visited the city of Zeitz in Germany and some other towns in Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Austria, Italy and Slovakia. They made friends with folklore enthusiasts in Borsky Mikulas in Slovakia. The most distant place we have visited was Istanbul, Turkey.

In 2003, Radovan performed at the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the ensemble. It was a big success and based on a response all members decided to continue with the folklore activities and formed the new ensemble „Pozdni sber.“

Other activities of both ensembles include discussions with dulcimer, often organized with some themes; in the past, we held several costume balls.

Since 2000, we have organized a gathering of folklore ensembles of Slovácko, Wallachia and Haná – Moravské Chodníčky, which in 2012 we expanded on Friday singing in a monastery chapel on a given theme. Christmas programs are an integral part of the activities.

The founder of all Napajedla folklore ensembles is the Culture Club of Napajedla, the most prominent supporter of the ensembles is the City of Napajedla and the Synot Foundation.

In 2023, the Radovan ensemble celebrated its 70th anniversary and the Pozdni sber 20th anniversary.
